Biography

Jasmina Havranek, Professor, PhD was born in Zagreb, where she finished primary school and gymnasium, graduated and obtained a doctorate at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Zagreb. In 2001 she was elected tenured full professor at the same University. As a Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Zagreb (2001 – 2006) she hosted many international delegations, rectors, representatives of foreign universities, faculties, organisations, agencies, ministries, etc. She is spreading awareness on the importance of contemporary developments in the area of higher education and science. In the period 2003 – 2005, Prof. Havranek was a President of the National Council for Higher Education of the Republic of Croatia, and in 2007 was appointed a Head of the Croatian Agency for Science and Higher Education (ASHE). In 2010, during her mandate, ASHE received important international recognition: the European Regional Economic Forum recognised it as an example of good practice in the implementation of quality assurance in higher education and science. In the same year the Agency gained full ENQA (European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education) membership, and it was included on the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR). In September 2012, the Agency joined the CHEA International Quality Group.Since November 2006 ASHE has been a member ofINQAAHE (International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education), and a full member of CEENQA (Central and Eastern European Network of Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education) since April 2008. ASHE is also a member of the OECD IMHE Forum (Institutional management in Higher Education). Professor Jasmina Havranek was awarded the Decoration "Order of Danica Hrvatska with the face of Ruđer Bošković" by the President of the Republic of Croatia for special contribution to Croatian science and higher education, and is also the winner of “Annual State Award for Science in the Field of Biotechnical Sciences for Special Scientific Achievement”, In 2005 she was appointed a civil expert in NATO's Foodand Agriculture Planning Committee(FAPC) in Brussels. She has been a member of the International Consortium of Agricultural and Related Universities (ICA) Executive Board since 2005. Prof. Havranek was also invited to lecture on several occasions at various institutions in China (University of China), the United States of America and India, and to present at numerous conferences in the EU countries

Research Interest

Technologies and quality in milk production and processing, and food safety. In her current capacity as the Director of the Agency for Science and Higher Education, she widened her area of expertise to include quality assurance in science and higher education
